Buenos Aires Province launches battery storage projects in four towns
The province of Buenos Aires approved a 31.2 billion‑peso programme to install battery‑energy‑storage systems (BESS) at four strategic nodes – Mar del Tuyú, Carmen de Areco, Arrecifes and Capitán Sarmiento. The installations will provide a combined 25 MW of power and 125 MWh of storage capacity. Work is slated to begin in the second half of 2026, with the systems expected to be operational by January 2027.
The project, carried out by Buenos Aires Energía S.A. and funded through the Additional Cost of Distributed Generation (ACGD) and the Infrastructure Transformation Fund (FITBA), aims to strengthen grid reliability, improve response to peak demand, facilitate renewable‑energy integration and reduce reliance on thermal backup generation.
