Buenos Aires Province vehicle inspections face cost rise and safety debate

The Buenos Aires provincial government is defending the mandatory Verificación Técnica Vehicular (VTV) amid proposals to relax inspection controls. Transport Minister Guillermo Marinucci warned that easing standards could jeopardize road safety, especially on deteriorating national routes, and highlighted ongoing efforts to shut down fraudulent websites offering illegal VTV certificates.

Effective June 2026, the province set specific fees for the VTV: $97,057.65 for cars up to 2,500 kg, $174,703.77 for heavier vehicles, $38,823.06 for motorcycles, and separate rates for trailers. Drivers must present identification, vehicle registration, previous VTV reports and other documents, and the inspection checks brakes, lights, tires, emissions and other safety components. Certain drivers, such as those with a Certificado Único de Discapacidad, may qualify for fee exemption. The combined focus on enforcement, cost structure and safety standards underscores the province’s intent to maintain rigorous vehicle oversight.
