Buenos Aires real estate and construction activity falls 9.4%
Real estate and construction activity in 66 municipalities of the Buenos Aires province fell by 9.4% year-on-year during the second quarter of 2026, according to a report by the National University of La Plata (UNLP). This decline marks the second consecutive quarter of contraction for the sector after eight quarters of growth.
The downturn was primarily driven by a 20.1% reduction in real estate operations, including deeds and mortgages. While 51 districts reported negative results, 15 municipalities, such as San Isidro and La Matanza, showed positive growth.
La Plata experienced a particularly sharp decline of 11%, performing worse than the provincial average. In the capital city, real estate operations dropped significantly, while construction saw a more moderate decrease of 1.8%. Despite these setbacks, La Plata remains a major player in the regional market, ranking second in the volume of real estate operations and third in authorized construction surface area.
