FIA President supports Argentina's return to Formula 1

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem has expressed full support for Argentina's efforts to return to the Formula 1 calendar, suggesting that 2029 or 2030 would be a more realistic timeframe for a Grand Prix. Speaking during the FIA American Congress in Buenos Aires, Ben Sulayem noted that while 2027 is too early due to a saturated 24-race calendar, the country is on the “right track.”

He highlighted the significant investments being made at the Autódromo Oscar y Juan Gálvez, which is undergoing renovations to meet international standards and is already set to host MotoGP in 2027. The FIA president also indicated optimism regarding the potential return of the World Rally Championship (WRC) to Argentina, stating that the nation “deserves” both premier racing series.

Argentine President Javier Milei has actively lobbied for the return of the sport, citing the country's motorsport heritage and the rising profile of local driver Franco Colapinto. Local officials, including Buenos Aires Chief of Government Jorge Macri, emphasized that the circuit's modernization is a priority to ensure it can meet the rigorous requirements of modern Formula 1 racing.
