Buenos Aires to exempt hotels, restaurants, and bookstores from ABL tax in 2027
Buenos Aires Chief of Government Jorge Macri announced that hotels, restaurants, and bookstores will be exempt from paying the ABL tax during the first half of 2027. The announcement was made during the opening of the Latin American International Tourism Fair (FIT) at La Rural.
The measure is intended to incentivize investment and employment within the tourism sector. According to official data, the exemption will benefit approximately 7,000 gastronomic establishments, 380 bookstores, and hundreds of hotels. This follows a period of growth in the city's tourism, with 1.6 million international visitors arriving between January and July 2026, representing a 19% increase over the same period in 2025.
Macri framed the tax relief as part of a broader strategy to reduce public spending and lower the tax burden on strategic sectors. He noted that the administration has already eliminated 9,000 administrative positions and 359 management roles, while also suspending contracts with 40 'ghost' dining halls to optimize the city's budget.
