Buenos Aires to lease Recoleta Cemetery vault for cafe

The Government of the City of Buenos Aires has launched a public tender to lease a disused 24.54-square-meter vault within the Recoleta Cemetery for use as a gastronomic establishment. The project is part of a broader initiative to provide complementary services to visitors, which includes a gift shop and night tourism services.

The proposed concession allows for the sale of food and beverages, though it explicitly excludes supermarkets, markets, and self-service formats. The site is located near Junín Street and is situated close to the resting places of several historical figures, including former presidents Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, Bartolomé Mitre, and Ramón Castillo.

The city has set a monthly canon of 1.6 million pesos for the lease. The tender also requires the successful bidder to maintain insurance for employees in the event of death, with a coverage requirement of 27.5 million pesos.
