Building Fires Sweep Indonesia's Aceh and Central Java Regions

A two‑storey shop in Banda Aceh's Lamdingin district was engulfed in flames on 20 July 2026, reportedly triggered by an electrical short circuit in a frozen‑food stall. The fire destroyed the premises, which housed a water‑bottles depot and the frozen‑food shop, and trapped the shop owner’s child on the upper floor before rescuers freed them through a side window. Seven fire‑engine units responded to the incident.

On 22 July 2026, a workshop and motor‑parts store in Cilacap, Central Java, burnt down after a short‑circuit ignited stored oil, fuel and gas cylinders. Strong winds fanned the blaze, forcing firefighters to cut through locked metal doors and deploy dozens of personnel and ten fire‑engine units to control the fire. Both incidents caused significant property loss but no reported fatalities.
