Bulawayo magistrate denies bail to Mnangagwa in-laws in drug case

A Bulawayo magistrate has denied bail to three women facing drug-related charges, including the mother and sister of the second wife of Collins Mnangagwa, son of President Emmerson Mnangagwa. The accused—Amina Jassinta Jessub Arab, 47, Dyonne Tanaka Tafirenyika, 28, and Noreen Jessub, 51—will remain in custody following their arrest at a lodge in the Ilanda suburb.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority, police recovered cocaine and crystal methamphetamine during searches of the women's rooms. Specifically, cocaine was allegedly found hidden in a shoe in Jessub’s room and in a small bag in Arab’s room. In Tafirenyika’s room, authorities reportedly found a sachet of crystal methamphetamine, a sachet of cocaine, and US$53,055 in cash.

Magistrate Taurai Manuwere dismissed the bail application, citing the strength of the State’s case and the high risk of the accused absconding. The court noted that the women possess valid passports, have access to significant funds, and are not permanent residents of Bulawayo, which could facilitate fleeing the country. The matter has been postponed to September 3, 2026.
