Bulgaria advances military modernization through defense deals

Bulgarian Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov is advancing several military modernization initiatives involving international partnerships. During a meeting with representatives from the German company Diehl Defence, Stoyanov proposed the establishment of a maintenance and logistics hub in Bulgaria for the IRIS-T air defense systems. This hub would provide storage, spare parts, technical support, and repairs, potentially serving both national and regional needs. Bulgaria has already secured one IRIS-T complex and is set to acquire five more through the SAFE mechanism.

Separately, the Bulgarian Parliament has moved to ratify amendments to agreements with the United States regarding the acquisition of Stryker combat vehicles, Javelin anti-tank missiles, and related ammunition. The total value of the contract for the Stryker vehicles has increased by $44,790,260. These acquisitions are intended to enhance the combat power, mobility, and logistical support of Bulgaria's mechanized brigade to meet alliance commitments.
