Bulgaria advocates for stronger European Defence Agency

Bulgaria is advocating for a stronger and more effective European Defence Agency (EDA) to better assist member states in building defense capabilities and utilizing EU instruments. During meetings of the EU Foreign Affairs/Defense Council and the EDA Steering Board in Brussels, Deputy Minister of Defense Lyubomir Monov emphasized that European defense readiness depends on increased investment and improved coordination between nations.

Monov supported measures to expand the agency's functions regarding innovation, capability development, and joint procurement of defense products and services. He also highlighted the importance of military mobility for the security of the eastern flank and the Black Sea region, noting the critical need for anti-aircraft, anti-missile, and drone countermeasure systems.

Additionally, Monov met with Sebastian Hartmann, a parliamentary state secretary from the German Federal Ministry of Defense, to discuss deepening bilateral military cooperation and accelerating joint projects under the SAFE instrument.
