Bulgarian authorities have announced temporary traffic restrictions for heavy vehicles exceeding 12 tons to manage increased traffic during the Unification Day holiday on September 6. The measures aim to improve road safety and prevent congestion on major routes.

The restrictions will be implemented in several stages:

• Friday, September 4, from 15:00 to 20:00: Restrictions apply to vehicles exiting Sofia. • Saturday, September 5, from 09:00 to 14:00: Restrictions apply to vehicles leaving Sofia. • Monday, September 7, from 12:00 to 20:00: Restrictions apply to vehicles traveling toward Sofia.

Key affected routes include the Trakia, Hemus, and Struma motorways, as well as road I-1 in the Blagoevgrad district. In the Simitli area, reversible lane traffic will be implemented to facilitate travel toward Bansko and other tourist resorts.

Exemptions apply to public transport buses, vehicles carrying dangerous goods (ADR), live animals, perishable goods, temperature-controlled cargo, and specialized refrigerated trucks.
