Energy markets in Southeast Europe face rising gas tariffs and storage mandates

Energy markets across Southeast Europe are experiencing shifts in pricing and regulatory requirements. In Moldova, ANRE has implemented new gas tariffs, with household consumers set to pay 20.30 lei per cubic meter starting September 1. Additionally, storage mandates have been updated, with Moldovagaz required to store 135.9 million cubic meters for the Transnistrian region to ensure supply for the 2026–2027 cold season.

In Bulgaria, the energy regulator KEVR approved a September natural gas price of 41.60 euro/MWh, representing a 5.5% increase from August. Despite this rise, Bulgarian consumers remain significantly below international market rates due to long-term contracts and LNG imports.

In Romania, Hidroelectrica is maintaining its electricity offer of 0.45000 lei/kWh for new customers. Meanwhile, Romgaz has completed the acquisition of Azomureș’s production activities, a move aimed at vertical integration and higher-value natural gas utilization. Regional electricity markets also saw a rebound in Serbia, driven by increased consumption and higher import requirements.
