Bulgaria approves short-term insurance options for motorcyclists

The Bulgarian National Assembly has officially approved amendments to the Insurance Code, providing new flexibility for owners of motorcycles, mopeds, campers, and caravans. Following months of protests against rising costs, owners can now opt for civil liability insurance policies covering one, three, or six months, rather than being forced to purchase a full year of coverage.

Under the new regulations, insurance companies are prohibited from refusing short-term contracts. While the change offers more options for seasonal riders and those visiting Bulgaria briefly, concerns remain regarding the actual cost of these policies. Some motorists have noted that even small 50cc mopeds face high premiums, with some costs reaching approximately 120 euros, leading to ongoing dissatisfaction regarding overall pricing structures.
