Bulgaria beach sign banning food, drinks and umbrellas withdrawn after public backlash

A sign posted near the Camping Cherno More beach in Burgas prohibited visitors from bringing food, beverages and umbrellas. The restriction sparked outrage on social media after tourist Dilyana Tineva, who was on holiday with her family, shared her experience, saying she could not bring water or food even though she had paid for a sunshade.

Beach manager Kristiyan Georgiev later confirmed the sign applied only to the paid area in front of the beach venue, not the free beach zone. Following a complaint, the Bulgarian Ministry of Tourism inspected the site, instructed the concessionaire to clarify the wording, and the sign was subsequently removed.

The incident highlighted tensions between tourism operators’ sales policies and visitor expectations, prompting a brief regulatory review by the ministry.
