Bulgaria begins flood relief payments in Strumyani and Batak
The Bulgarian Social Assistance Agency has begun distributing financial aid to families affected by heavy rainfall in Strumyani, Ilindenzi, Peshtera, and Batak. To date, 20 families have received a one-time payment of up to 1,171 euros, with 14 of these households located in Batak and six in Strumyani and Ilindenzi.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Policy is providing three tiers of support. In addition to the initial payment, households with damaged primary residences can apply for an extra 1,550 euros. A third option provides up to 1,300 euros from the Social Protection Fund for purchasing essential home furniture and equipment. To qualify for these additional funds, applicants must have a legally constructed and inhabited home and must have already applied for or been approved for the initial 1,171-euro aid.
Beyond direct financial assistance, the Ministry is facilitating cleanup efforts by hiring unemployed residents through the ‘Employment Without Barriers’ project, funded by the European Human Resources Development program. Employment numbers include 17 workers in Batak, 10 in Strumyani, and five in Peshtera.
