Bulgaria braces for early July heat wave and scattered thunderstorms
The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology issued a forecast for the weekend and the first week of July, predicting sunny conditions across much of Bulgaria with temperatures rising to 34‑39 °C. In eastern and mountainous areas, scattered cloud cover will develop, and brief showers with thunderstorms are expected, especially in western and central regions on Tuesday.
Strong northeast winds will affect the higher elevations, while coastal areas along the Black Sea will remain mostly sunny with sea temperatures around 24‑26 °C. After the initial heat spike, temperatures are expected to moderate to 25‑30 °C toward the weekend as cooler northern winds arrive.
Overall, the outlook calls for a hot spell with possible short‑term rain and thunder in western and central Bulgaria, followed by slightly milder conditions later in the week.
