Bulgaria Issues Yellow Weather Warning for Storms and Hail on July 21

The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) issued a yellow‑code alert for dangerous weather on Tuesday, 21 July, covering 14 Bulgarian provinces in the west, south and east. The warning, aimed at intense rain, thunderstorms and hail, applies to the regions of Sofia, Montana, Vratsa, Lovech, Plovdiv, Pazardzhik, Smolyan, Ruse, Razgrad, Shumen, Silistra, Dobrich, Varna and Burgas. Forecasts call for short‑duration but heavy showers of 20‑35 mm, occasional gusts up to moderate strength, and temperatures between 30 °C and 35 °C, with cooler night lows around 26 °C. Localised flooding and reduced visibility may occur, especially in mountainous areas around the Rila‑Rhodope range and the Stara Planina. Residents are advised to exercise caution when travelling, avoid outdoor activities where possible, and stay informed of updates from NIMH. Despite the severe weather potential, no widespread damage or casualties have been reported at the time of the alert.
