Bulgaria weather: High temperatures followed by weekend storms

Bulgaria is experiencing a final period of high summer temperatures before a significant weather shift. Current conditions remain mostly sunny and hot, with maximum temperatures reaching between 30°C and 37°C in various regions, including Sofia and Veliko Tarnovo.

Forecasters predict a sharp reversal starting this weekend. A cold air mass is expected to move in, bringing thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and localized hail. The Rila-Rhodope region and Central Stara Planina are at higher risk for significant precipitation.

By Sunday, temperatures are expected to drop sharply, potentially reaching 20-21°C in Sofia. The Black Sea coast will see a transition from sunny, warm weather to increased cloud cover and potential storms by the end of the weekend.
