Bulgaria faces Black Sea security concerns and shifting election trends

Bulgarian political and security developments are intensifying ahead of upcoming elections. Regarding maritime security, MP Hristo Gadjev has called for immediate NATO consultations following drone strikes in the Black Sea. He emphasized the need for increased surveillance and early warning mechanisms involving Bulgaria, Romania, and Turkey to ensure free navigation.

In the political sphere, sociologist Dimitar Ganev predicts a likely second round in the presidential elections due to expected low voter turnout. Current polling suggests a runoff between candidates, with noted erosion in support for the Progressive Bulgaria coalition. Additionally, discussions regarding potential debates between vice-presidential candidates have emerged, following reports that candidate Georgi Kandeve declined to participate in a scheduled debate.

On the European level, MEP Kristian Vigenin highlighted the European Commission’s new anti-corruption strategy, which aims to ensure EU funds reach citizens rather than being lost to corruption schemes.
