Bulgaria faces dangerous heat wave as temperatures near 39 °C
The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) issued a yellow heat alert for Bulgaria on 30 June, warning of potentially hazardous temperatures across the country. Forecasts predict daytime highs between 34 °C and 39 °C, with Sofia expected to reach around 34 °C.
Weather conditions will be mostly sunny, with occasional cloud cover and brief showers in western and central northern regions. Winds will shift from east‑northeast to northwest later in the week, and sea temperatures along the Black Sea coast will stay around 24 °C‑26 °C. Authorities advise the public to watch for heat‑related illness and take precautions during the peak of the heat.
The heat is expected to peak at the end of June before moving on to storms and possible hail in the following days.
