Bulgaria weather: Cold front brings rain and thunderstorms

A cold atmospheric front is set to move across Bulgaria, bringing significant changes to the weather. On Friday, October 23, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected, particularly in Central and Eastern Bulgaria. In Southeast Bulgaria, rainfall amounts could exceed 70–80 liters per square meter.

The passing front will also bring strong northwest winds and a noticeable drop in temperatures, with daily highs expected to decrease by 4–5 degrees Celsius compared to Thursday. In the mountains, rain will turn to snow at altitudes above 2,000 meters.

A yellow weather code was issued for eight regions in Western Bulgaria, including Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Sofia-city, Sofia-province, Pernik, Pleven, and Lovech, due to the risk of intense precipitation.

Following the front, weather conditions are expected to improve over the weekend with more sunshine and a gradual, slight increase in temperatures, though morning fog may occur in low-lying areas.
