Bulgaria intercepts large quantities of narcotics at borders

Bulgarian authorities have intercepted several significant shipments of narcotics during recent customs inspections. At the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing, customs officials discovered 221.73 kg of marijuana, valued at approximately 1.8 million euros, hidden within a truck carrying coniferous timber. The vehicle, which had Ukrainian registration and was traveling from Ukraine through Romania and Bulgaria toward Turkey, led to the arrest of a Ukrainian driver.

In a separate incident near Vidin, a thorough inspection of a commercial vehicle revealed 348 kg of drugs, including 19 kg of cocaine hidden in a specialized compartment and 329 kg of marijuana concealed within pallets of peanuts destined for international markets. A 25-year-old Bulgarian driver was arrested in connection with this seizure.

Additionally, police in the Ruse region conducted multiple operations, uncovering cannabis cultivation in Dve Mogili and seizing various substances, including methamphetamine and cannabis, during inspections in Ruse and Byala.
