Bulgaria: Investigation into Vladimir Yankov murder suggests non-professional execution

Bulgarian Interior Minister Ivan Demerzhiev stated that the investigation into the death of businessman Vladimir Yankov in Bankya indicates the killing was not a professionally planned execution. According to Demerzhiev, the perpetrators' original intent was different, but the situation escalated, leading to the fatal outcome.

Yankov was found dead following a fire at his home in late July. Forensic examinations revealed that the businessman was killed before being set on fire, a process that destroyed much of the physical evidence. Medical reports also showed deep tissue and bone damage, suggesting the victim was tortured prior to death.

While the Ministry of Interior has confirmed the death was not a professional hit, officials have not yet disclosed the original motive or identified specific suspects, citing the need to protect the ongoing investigation.
