Bulgaria Issues Nationwide Yellow Heat Alert for Extreme Temperatures
The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) placed a yellow code for dangerous heat over the entire country on Monday, 29 June 2026. Forecasts call for sunny skies, temperatures ranging from 34 °C to 39 °C in low‑lying areas and around 34 °C in Sofia, with cooler conditions at higher altitudes.
The warning also applied to 14 regions for the preceding Sunday, with peak temperatures expected between 32 °C and 38 °C. NIMH advises people, especially the elderly, children, and those with health conditions, to stay hydrated, avoid intense sun exposure, and keep indoor temperatures within a safe range. Practical tips include drinking 2–2.5 liters of water per day, wearing light clothing, and limiting outdoor activity during peak heat hours.
