Bulgaria issues orange weather warning for heavy rain and storms
The National Institute of Meteorology (NIMH) issued an orange‑code alert for intense rain, thunderstorms and hail across eight Bulgarian provinces—including Razgrad, Shumen, Targovishte, Silistra, Dobrich, Varna, Burgas and Yambol—on 22 July 2026. The warning covers the second‑degree level for these regions, while a yellow code applies to the remaining areas.
A second alert for 23 July 2026 combines yellow and orange codes for 25 provinces, forecasting temperatures mainly between 25 °C and 30 °C, brief heavy showers, strong gusts from the north‑north‑west, and continued risk of hail, especially in the Rilo‑Rodopska area. Coastal zones will see partly sunny skies with moderate sea states.
Both days are expected to feature periods of sun‑breaks interspersed with cloud‑burst activity, with wind directions shifting throughout the afternoon. The alerts aim to prepare the public for potentially localized flooding and storm damage.
