Bulgaria weather alert: Cold front brings storms and hail

Bulgaria is experiencing a significant weather shift due to a passing cold atmospheric front. The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) has issued yellow codes for several regions, including Sofia, Plovdiv, and Veliko Tarnovo, warning of intense rainfall, thunderstorms, and potential hail.

In the eastern and central parts of the country, heavy precipitation is expected, with some areas potentially receiving between 15 and 45 liters per square meter. The Black Sea coast is also expected to see significant cloud cover, strong winds, and thunderstorms, making conditions unfavorable for beach activities.

Temperatures are set to drop sharply across the country. While some southeastern regions may still see highs of up to 34°C, much of the country, including the northwest, will see temperatures ranging between 18°C and 28°C. Following the period of instability, forecasts suggest a return to more stable and sunny conditions by early next week, though September is expected to remain warmer than average overall.
