The alert covers 21‑22 regions, including Plovdiv, Sofia, Burgas, Varna and Blagoevgrad, with forecast maximums between 32 °C and 37 °C and isolated peaks of 38 °C. The agency warned of dangerous heat, urging people—especially children, the elderly and those with chronic illnesses—to avoid prolonged sun exposure between 11:00 and 17:00, stay hydrated and limit physical exertion.

In response to the heat, the Bulgarian Road Infrastructure Agency announced temporary traffic restrictions for heavy trucks (over 20 t) on the main highways from 13:00 to 21:00 on 4‑6 August 2026. The International Road Transport Union (UND) echoed the warning to drivers crossing the border. Rescue official Petar Rusev advised beachgoers to swim early, between 08:00 and 11:00, and to use shade, water and protective clothing.

Health experts highlighted the added strain on the cardiovascular and immune systems during extreme heat, noting a rise in heat‑related illnesses and mortality risk for vulnerable groups.
