Bulgaria law enforcement dismantles customs fraud and drug trafficking rings
Bulgarian law enforcement has conducted several major operations targeting smuggling and drug trafficking. In a specialized operation by the GD BoP and the Customs Agency, nine individuals, including six customs employees, were detained for allegedly diverting confiscated goods—such as clothing, shoes, and perfumes—intended for destruction to sell them through physical and online channels.
In Sofia, police dismantled a drug depot used to supply street dealers. The operation resulted in the seizure of approximately nine kilograms of methamphetamine, three kilograms of marijuana, 2.5 kilograms of ecstasy, and 0.5 kilograms each of cocaine and hashish. Authorities noted the scheme utilized cryptocurrency payments via Telegram and a system of drop locations to avoid direct contact between dealers and couriers.
Additionally, in Plovdiv, criminal investigators seized nearly 0.5 kilograms of fentanyl, estimated to be over 1,000 doses, during an operation in the Stolipinovo district. Six people were detained in connection with the drug delivery attempt, and investigations are ongoing in both the Plovdiv and Pazardzhik regions.
