Bulgaria: Lawyer warns of rising “Task Scam” financial fraud
Lawyer Elitsa Buenova has warned citizens in Bulgaria about a growing “Task Scam” involving promises of easy remote work. The scheme typically begins with messages from unknown numbers offering high daily wages, such as 250 to 300 euros, in exchange for simple online tasks like liking brand pages on platforms such as Shein.
To build trust, scammers may actually pay small initial amounts, such as 5 euros, for completed tasks. However, once the victim believes the platform is legitimate, the scam escalates. Users are then required to deposit their own funds to “unlock levels” or pay increasing amounts for “taxes” and “guarantees” to withdraw their accumulated virtual earnings.
