Bulgaria limits heavy trucks on Trakia, Struma and Kresna Gorge routes
On Sunday afternoon, Bulgaria will temporarily restrict the movement of heavy trucks over 12 tonnes on both directions of the Trakia and Struma motorways and on road I‑1 through the Kresna Gorge. The restriction will be in force from 15:30 until 22:00 between the Simitli junction (km 376) and the Kulata border crossing.
The measure aims to reduce the risk of accidents caused by improper overtaking and to prevent long truck queues during peak travel to the Black Sea coast. Vehicles over 12 t that carry passengers, hazardous goods, live animals, perishable foods, refrigerated cargo, specialized rescue units or road‑maintenance vehicles are exempt. Reversible traffic will be applied on the I‑1 segment at Simitli, with two lanes toward Sofia and one toward Kulata. Drivers can use an interactive traffic map that shows real‑time vehicle counts and road congestion.
A similar reversible arrangement was introduced the day before on the nearby km 375 segment.
