Bulgaria marks 141 years of Unification with national ceremonies
Bulgaria will observe the 141st anniversary of the Unification of the Principality of Bulgaria with Eastern Rumelia on September 6, 2026. Various cities and regions have organized commemorative ceremonies to honor the historical event.
In Stara Zagora, the Municipality and the Second Tundzha Mechanized Brigade will hold a ritual at the ‘Defenders of Stara Zagora’ monument. The program includes wreath-laying ceremonies and a festive concert by the ‘Zagore’ Municipal Folklore Ensemble. Several surrounding villages, including Pryaporets and Ostra Mogila, will also host local celebrations.
In Varna, the Municipality, the Bulgarian Navy, and the Varna and Veliko Preslav Holy Metropolis are co-organizing events. Commemorations will include a military ritual at the memorial plaque of Prince Alexander I Battenberg, followed by a procession to the monument of the fallen in the Serbo-Bulgarian War. Additionally, a historical reenactment of the moment Prince Battenberg announced the Unification from Varna will take place in the evening.
