Bulgaria police seize record 440 kg of nitrous oxide in Sozopol

Police from the Sozopol district in Bulgaria seized a record 440 kg of nitrous oxide (diazene oxide) during a specialised operation on the Black Sea resort. The haul, the largest ever recorded in the Burgas region, was found on a pallet containing 80 five‑kilogram containers that had been off‑loaded at a large commercial parking area.

Seven individuals from various parts of the country, employed seasonally in Sozopol and nearby resorts, were detained. Authorities say they were part of an organised network supplying the gas to nightclubs and other entertainment venues along the southern coast. The Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior said intensified checks on illegal nitrous oxide distribution will continue throughout the summer season, with the investigation now under prosecutorial supervision.
