Bulgaria prepares for EuroVolley 2026 and new volleyball league season

Bulgaria is set to host several matches for the EuroVolley 2026 championship. The national team will begin its group stage campaign on September 9 against North Macedonia in Sofia. Other scheduled group matches in Sofia include fixtures against Portugal on September 11, Ukraine on September 12, Israel on September 14, and Poland on September 16.

The 34th edition of the European Championship will run from September 9 to 26, featuring 24 national teams. Co-hosts include Bulgaria, Italy, Finland, and Romania. Public screenings of the matches will be organized in Sofia, Blagoevgrad, and Burgas.

Separately, the Bulgarian National Volleyball League (NVL) will launch its new season on October 31. The league is implementing significant reforms, including a transition to a 12-team format starting next year. The upcoming season will feature 13 teams competing in a regular season, with the top eight advancing to the playoffs. The league is also undergoing a digital transformation, replacing paper records with digital files and implementing specialized servers for video match analysis.
