Bulgaria protests demand stricter road safety after child deaths

Parents, children and activists gathered in Sofia outside the Judicial Palace, and later in Plovdiv, to demand urgent road‑safety reforms following a series of traffic fatalities involving minors. Organized by the NGO "Angels of the Road," the demonstrations featured white balloons, candles, a one‑minute silence and calls for swift legal action against drivers responsible for serious crashes.

Protesters urged the government to impose tighter controls on speed and enforcement, accelerate infrastructure upgrades on highways such as the Trakia motorway, and hold officials of the road agency (API) accountable for alleged corruption and neglect. They also demanded that courts impose harsher sentences on those whose negligence leads to child deaths on Bulgarian roads.
