Bulgaria records over 7 million tourists through September

Bulgaria recorded over 7 million tourists between January and September, according to Deputy Minister of Tourism Mariela Modeva. During the peak period from May to September, the country saw 5.7 million visitors, including more than 3.5 million foreign tourists.

Modeva highlighted the growing interest in cultural and historical tourism, noting that museum visits in Bulgaria have exceeded 7.9 million people. Bulgaria ranks third in Europe, following Italy and Greece, in terms of immovable cultural assets, with approximately 40,000 such sites.

The Ministry aims to transition Bulgaria from a cheap seasonal destination to a year-round destination by improving the quality of tourism products and better marketing its 8,000-year history, culture, and traditions. Key development factors identified include connectivity, accessibility, and effective marketing to target markets.
