Bulgaria records two fatal road collisions in Sofia and Simitli regions

On 22 July 2026, a 63‑year‑old woman was killed when two cars collided near the village of Vladaia in the Sofia region. The crash restricted traffic and authorities introduced a detour via the Struma or Dragichevo route toward Sofia.

Later the same day, a severe accident occurred on the main road E‑79 near Simitli. A light car entered the opposite lane and struck two heavy‑load trucks, one of which was hauling three trailers. The vehicle’s female passenger, a Serbian citizen, later died in the Blagoevgrad hospital, while the male driver sustained fractures. Police and fire crews continued investigating the cause, and traffic on the route was regulated with a temporary two‑way flow in a single lane.

Both incidents prompted traffic controls and detours on the affected sections of the I‑1 corridor.
