Bulgarian motorways face traffic restrictions and lane closures
The Road Infrastructure Agency (API) has announced several temporary traffic restrictions and lane closures across major Bulgarian motorways to improve safety and facilitate travel during peak periods.
Heavy goods vehicles exceeding 12 tons will face restrictions on the Trakia and Struma motorways, as well as the I-1 road through the Kresna Gorge (between Simitli and the Kulata border crossing). These restrictions are scheduled for Fridays and Sundays through the end of August to prevent accidents caused by improper overtaking and heavy vehicle congestion. To assist traffic flow, reversible lanes will be implemented in the Simitli area. Exemptions apply to public transport, ADR hazardous goods, live animals, and temperature-controlled food transport.
Additionally, maintenance work involving the removal of roadside vegetation will cause temporary lane closures on the Hemus motorway between August 17 and 21. These works will occur during weekdays between 07:00 and 16:00. On the Trakia motorway in the Sofia region, emergency lane restrictions are also planned for August 17 to facilitate maintenance activities.
