Bulgaria restricts heavy trucks on Trakia, Struma highways and Kresna Pass this weekend

Bulgaria will temporarily prohibit trucks over 12 tonnes from using the Trakia (A1) and Struma (A3) motorways and the Kresna Pass section of road I‑1 during the weekend. The bans apply on Friday, 31 July from 16:00 to 23:00 and on Sunday, 2 August from 15:30 to 22:00, aiming to improve safety and reduce traffic queues in peak hours.

Drivers of heavy trucks are directed to alternative routes: the Podbalkan road I‑6 for traffic to and from Burgas, and a combination of roads II‑19, III‑198 and III‑1981 for traffic to and from the Kresna checkpoint. Vehicles exempt from the restriction include passenger‑transport trucks, hazardous‑material carriers, livestock transport, fast‑perishable goods, temperature‑controlled loads, specialized rescue trucks and road‑maintenance vehicles. To ease flow toward the Banitsa ski area, a reversible lane arrangement will be used around Simitli, with two lanes in one direction and one lane in the opposite direction on each day.
