Bulgaria road safety expert warns of 'road anarchy' after Trakia highway crash

Krasimir Georgiev, head of the Association for Driver Qualification in Bulgaria, said a "road anarchy" has been created by state inaction and faulty institutions following a serious collision on the Trakia highway involving a heavy vehicle travelling in the opposite lane. He called for an investigation of the regulations that allow such "mantineli" barriers on Bulgarian roads and criticized the Automobile Administration for failing to implement effective digitalised control.

Georgiev urged a comprehensive reform of road safety, starting with stricter oversight of driver training and licensing. He claimed non‑governmental experts outnumber those in some state bodies and that their input should be sought. Without swift measures, he warned more deadly incidents will occur.
