Bulgaria says no scandal in its stance on the ‘Coalition of the Willing’ for Ukraine

Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Pekanov told BNT that there is no scandal in Bulgaria’s position on the so‑called “Coalition of the Willing”. He said, “There is no scandal – Bulgaria helps Ukraine as it can, but the state cannot provide financial or military aid now, and the war must be stopped.” Pekanov added that Bulgaria’s vote in the EU does not bind it to any new sanctions and that a veto is permissible.

Foreign Minister Vеlislava Petrova also clarified that Bulgaria has not signed any binding agreement related to the coalition. She said, “No one has signed anything,” and stressed that the Kyiv Declaration is a non‑binding, informal format. Petrova noted that while Bulgaria supports the coalition’s goals, it will not take a concrete role and will limit its involvement to presence rather than active participation, echoing Prime Minister Rumen Radev’s earlier remarks.
