Bulgaria Says No Talks with Poland Over MiG‑29 Jets

Bulgarian MP Ivelin Parvanov asked the defence minister whether Bulgaria is negotiating with Poland to acquire MiG‑29 fighter jets. The minister replied that no talks are underway because Bulgaria has not received an official response from Warsaw.

Polish Deputy Defence Minister Paweł Zaleński said the MiG‑29s originally earmarked for Ukraine will not be sent there and that Poland is now discussing the aircraft with another NATO member. Parvanov warned that the lack of a solution threatens Bulgaria’s ability to protect its airspace, especially as the delivery of the second batch of U.S. F‑16s has been delayed by two years. He suggested that modernised Polish MiG‑29s could fill the capability gap until the new jets become fully operational. Prime Minister Rumen Radев has also arranged for the Polish state plant WZL‑2 to repair Bulgaria’s existing MiG‑29 fleet as an interim measure.
