Bulgaria to finish Botash gas pipeline talks with Turkey in two months

Energy Minister Iva Petrova announced that negotiations with Turkey on the Botash gas pipeline transport contract are expected to be completed within the next one to two months. The talks focus on revising transport fees and establishing a new memorandum of energy cooperation to make the gas flow more competitive against alternative routes.

Petrova noted that the original Botash agreement was signed in 2023 under radically different conditions, when Russian gas supplies were halted and Bulgaria lacked alternative import points. The pipeline remains vital for Bulgaria’s supply security and its role as a transit hub serving Ukraine, Moldova and Central Europe. Ongoing expert working groups are reviewing the contract parameters, and the minister highlighted substantial investments in vertical gas corridors and capacity upgrades that could enable greater exports to the region.
