Bulgaria weather alert: Heavy rain and cooling trend
A significant weather shift is affecting Bulgaria, characterized by a cold front and widespread precipitation. The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) has issued a yellow code warning for the Dobrich and Silistra regions due to expected heavy rainfall of 30–35 mm and potential thunderstorms.
Across the country, temperatures are dropping, with maximums generally ranging between 9°C and 14°C, while Sofia is expected to see highs around 11°C. The eastern half of the country will experience frequent rain, which is projected to spread across most of Northern Bulgaria later in the day. In the mountains, including the Rila, Pirin, and Stara Planina massifs, rain is expected, with snow likely at higher elevations as the rain-snow line lowers.
Coastal areas, particularly the northern Black Sea coast, will face cloudy conditions, rain, and gusty northwest winds. Sea temperatures remain between 17°C and 18°C. Looking ahead, further precipitation is forecasted for much of Northern Bulgaria through Wednesday and Thursday, with a potential new cold spell and snow possible in lower mountain regions by Saturday.
