Weather patterns in Plovdiv and Bulgaria

Overview

In early October, Plovdiv experienced sunny weather characterized by significant temperature fluctuations, with morning lows between 3 and 8 degrees Celsius and afternoon highs reaching 24 to 26 degrees Celsius. By late October, conditions shifted toward more unsettled weather as northwest winds brought in colder air masses.

Following a period of morning fog in lowland and valley regions, a significant weather shift began toward the end of the month. By October 26, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) reported that the day would start with fog and low visibility in many lowland areas. As the day progressed, cloud cover increased over western Bulgaria, leading to rain in some locations.

By the evening of October 26, a cold air mass from the northwest began moving in, causing temperatures to drop. Maximum temperatures were expected to range between 13°C and 18°C, though eastern and southern regions might reach up to 21°C, with Sofia forecasted at approximately 14°C. In the mountains, significant cloud cover was expected, with rain in western massifs and snow at altitudes above 2400 meters. Along the Black Sea coast, morning fog and low clouds were anticipated, with light rain possible along the northern coast and sea temperatures between 17°C and 19°C.

As of October 26, a cold front is moving through the Danube Plain and the Upper Thracian Plain. A yellow weather alert has been issued for the Dobrich and Silistra regions due to forecasts of heavy rainfall, with amounts potentially reaching 30-35 mm. By Tuesday, October 27, the cold air is expected to cover the entire country. The Black Sea coast is expected to experience cloudy skies and rain, particularly along the northern coast, with sea swells between 2 and 4 bala.
