Bulgaria weather trends show warmth amid Black Sea rising temperatures

Bulgaria is experiencing a period of unseasonably warm and sunny weather. Forecasts indicate daytime temperatures reaching between 21°C and 26°C in much of the country, including Sofia, while the Black Sea coast remains mild with water temperatures around 19°C to 21°C.

Despite the warmth, some regions face frost warnings during early morning hours, particularly in certain basins of Western and Central Bulgaria. While the current trend shows rising temperatures and sunny skies, a shift toward cloudier weather and potential rainfall is expected toward the end of the week, followed by a significant drop in temperature due to cold air from the northwest.

Separately, a 55-year analysis from the Turkish General Directorate of Meteorology highlights a concerning trend of rapid warming in the Black Sea. Data from 1970 to 2025 shows the average water temperature has increased by 1.4°C, with the rate of warming accelerating significantly in the last decade. This trend affects both Bulgaria and Turkey, potentially leading to more frequent marine heatwaves, changes in fish stocks, and increased algae blooms.
