Bulgaria weather: Cold front brings heavy rain and wind
A cold atmospheric front is moving across Bulgaria, bringing significant changes to the weather pattern. Following an unseasonably warm start to October, the country is entering a period of typical autumn weather characterized by lower temperatures and increased precipitation.
Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms have been reported, with orange-level warnings issued for several regions, including Dobrich, Shumen, Varna, Burgas, Yambol, Haskovo, Kardzhali, and Smolyan. In these areas, rainfall amounts are expected to reach between 35 and 65 liters per square meter within 24 hours.
Strong winds are also a major concern, with yellow-level warnings in effect for numerous provinces. The Black Sea coast is experiencing cloudy conditions and strong northern winds, with sea swells reaching 3 to 5 Beaufort. In the mountains, particularly the Rhodopes and Stara Planina, rain is expected to transition to snow at altitudes above 1200 to 1500 meters, with potential snow accumulation of up to 10 centimeters in higher elevations.
