Bulgaria law enforcement conducts major drug and cigarette seizures

Bulgarian law enforcement and customs officials have conducted several major operations targeting drug and cigarette smuggling across the country’s borders and urban centers.

At the Lesovo border crossing, a joint operation by the Customs Agency and the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GDБОП) resulted in the seizure of 20 kg of cocaine and 26 kg of marijuana. The drugs, valued at over 2.2 million euros, were hidden in a specially constructed compartment within a truck's fuel tank. A 40-year-old Bulgarian driver was detained.

Additional seizures included 57 kg of marijuana worth approximately 466,625 euros found in a truck at the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing, and 37,000 illicit cigarettes seized at the Malko Tarnovo checkpoint from a bus and a minibus arriving from Turkey.

In Sofia, police arrested two individuals in separate operations in the Ovcha Kupel and Serdika neighborhoods for distributing various narcotics, including heroin, fentanyl, and methamphetamine.
