Bulgarian citizens report 1,760 medical irregularities via eZdrave app

Bulgarian citizens have submitted 1,760 reports of suspected unregulated medical activities through the eZdrave mobile application in a single month. Following the activation of the ‘Public Control’ module on August 1, the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) has initiated 560 inspections, which are currently being processed.

The majority of complaints concern fictitious medical examinations, unrealistic referral results, and hospitalizations. These reports are concentrated in medical facilities located in Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv, and Burgas. The platform, maintained by the state-owned ‘Information Services’ company under the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Transformation, allows users to view reported medical activities in their personal profiles and report unrecognized services in real time.

The eZdrave app currently has 450,000 active users, with an additional 250,000 linked profiles, growing by approximately 1,100 new users daily. Future updates planned for October 2026 include a dental module and a ‘Financial Profile’ module to show the exact amount the state has paid for an individual's treatment.
