Bulgarian deputies propose 2027 minimum wage at 50% of average

Members of the 'We Continue the Change' party have proposed that Bulgaria's minimum wage for 2027 remain set at 50% of the national average salary. This proposal would set the minimum wage at approximately 692 euros, which is higher than the 660 euros currently projected in the Ministry of Finance's guidelines for the 2027 budget.

The proposal is being introduced as an amendment between the first and second readings of changes to the Labor Code. While the Council of Ministers intends to introduce four specific criteria for determining the minimum wage, the deputies argue there is insufficient time to finalize the exact mathematical formula via a separate regulation before budget calculations must be completed.

The current plan from the government is to include the four criteria in the Labor Code and define the specific calculation formula in a subsequent ordinance. However, because such an ordinance requires public discussion after the Labor Code is voted on, the deputies suggest maintaining the existing 50% rule to ensure budgetary clarity for the upcoming period.
