Bulgarian Development Bank secures 332.5M euro for residential energy renovations

The Bulgarian Development Bank (BDB) has finalized negotiations for the energy renovation of 630 multi-family residential buildings across more than 100 municipalities in Bulgaria. This large-scale project, part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), covers approximately 1.3 million square meters of built-up area.

The program provides 100% financing for eligible costs, meaning homeowners will not bear the financial burden for the approved energy efficiency improvements. The total investment managed by the BDB under the ‘Residential Building Renovation Subsidy Scheme’ amounts to 332.5 million euros. This figure includes an initial 246.6 million euros, which was increased by 85.9 million euros in August following updates to the NRRP.

The primary objectives of the initiative are to reduce energy consumption, lower household utility costs, and improve the overall living standards and thermal comfort of residents through enhanced energy efficiency in the housing stock.
